Do you remember that feeling of excitement, andthat tingle that took over your whole being and spread throughout your body from top to bottom with that very first kiss and caress that you shared?
Now I want you take a moment and take your selves back to that time .Begin by shutting your eyes and imagining that very special moment that you both shared. It felt like nothing else mattered in the world except the two of you. That’s exactly what you need to get back to, to keep your relationship light burning bright.
If you are in a long-term relationship chances are that the spark is still there between the two of you; but the flame may not be burning as bright as it was when you first met and locked lips.
Monotonous routines douse the burning desires
So many other things have entered the relationship equation; children, house work, economics, work and the monotonous routine of everyday life. It can be hard to juggle for most couples and can certainly douse the burning desires you once had for each other.
Re-igniting the fire:
Element 1: The humble kiss
The kiss is a powerful bonding element between you and your partner. When you kiss an enormous part of your brain is stimulated and a cascade of bio-chemicals are released to draw you closer together and reduce any anxiety and stress that may exist between you and your partner.
What the science has told us is that oxytocin levels (the bonding hormone) increase dramatically and Cortisol (the stress hormone) decreases. For many men kissing is viewed as the first step towards copulation as their testosterone levels surge even with the first touch of their partner’s lips.
The brain has evolved three systems of mating and reproduction:
Sex drive: this drives us towards our chosen partners.
Romantic love: this is the love that directs and concentrates our attention onto our partner.
Attachment: we become attached to our partner and develop a strong bond between them and our selves and the children that will come from this loving bond.
So it all begins with a kiss, but it takes more than a kiss to maintain the spark in our relationships
Element 2: Food
Diet plays an important role in maintaining the spark in your relationship especially when it comes to maintaining your libido and the chemical attraction for each other. Including certain foods in your diet can produce some magical sexual chemistry between you and your partner.
That special candle-lit dinner may be the most effective way to trigger each other’s desires for intimacy and what will follow.
What I suggest is that the meal has good portions of fresh fruit and vegetables as these contain all the right nutrients that are vital for high energy and the high blood flow that is required in love making.
Here are some of my suggestions, try to include some of them on the menu.
Fruits: fruits can spark arousal for love, the shape and colour can produce the most provocative thoughts in your brain even before you get to taste them: apricots, cherries, coconut, dates, figs, grapes, mangoes, peaches, kiwi, avocado, apples, bananas. These have been implicated in reigniting the fire in our relationships. Especially banana and avocado, which are rich in potassium and vitamin E, and are thought to boost our sex drive.
Strawberries and blueberries are high in vitamin B and zinc which can send testsosterone surging in men and help our women get into the mood for love.
Who can resist a bowl of strawberries and cream to set the tone of what is to come?
Meat and fish: keep it lean, chicken and turkey, sushi and oily fish which are high in omega fatty acids can help with intimacy.
We can’t forget oysters! They have been used as an aphrodisiac for many centuries. Because of their high zinc levels they are thought to trigger increases in testosterone thereby boosting libido and the want for intimacy.
Chocolate: when it comes to love making and keeping the fire alight in your relationship you can’t go past chocolate. Many have called it the love drug. Use it as part of the desert or just have a couple of pieces at the end of the meal with coffee. Whatever you like, but make sure you have some.
Chocolate contains phenylalanine, an amino acid that increases your body’s natural pain-killers and antidepressants. It also increases blood flow to the right organs and will send your desires for each other skyward.
Besides all of these qualities it is a powerful antioxidant, especially dark chocolate. This will ward off hardening of your arteries and keep the blood flowing in all the right places.
So get to it!
Start cooking, hold each other as much and possible and seal the deal with a passionate kiss.
Forget everything for a moment or two that has been getting in the way of your true love for each other.
