Self-diagnosis through the net can be dangerous to your health.
With our increasing love and over reliance on technology; iphones, ipads, apps, social media, chat rooms, forums and the overwhelming amount of information on the net who needs a doctor when it comes to making your own diagnosis.
6 years at university to get a MEDICAL DEGREE, 4 or more years in hospital PRACTICE and 20 or so years in medical practice really doesn’t count for much or does it?
His right BALL was so big it must have been normal – or that’s what he thought
Big Balls aren’t always NORMAL
Despite how much value we as men place on the size of our balls. I’ll never forget the day when this one guy came in confident that he had made the right diagnosis when it came to his testicular problem after looking it up on the net.
“Doc my left testicle there’s something wrong with it; I looked it up on the net and everything points to a blood flow problem in my left ball that’s why its so much smaller than my right one which is much, much bigger and normal”
I asked him “How old are you?”
I’m thirty-nine years old,
“and when did you first notice the problem with your left testicle?”
Doc it was about six months ago I felt the right one and it was bigger and to me it felt normal when I felt the left one it was less than half the size. I got out of the shower and went straight to my computer, to the net and looked it up on google, then I went to a men’s chat room and told my story to everyone they reassured me and that made me feel better and not so worried.
“So why did you come in today?”
Well Doc it’s still small it hasn’t got any bigger, the right one is still big, normal; and that worries me.
“Well let’s have a look and feel and see what the problem is.”
He dropped his paint. I began the examination, I felt his left testicle and it was absolutely normal when it came to his right one that was a different story it was so big because it had been completely overtaken by testicular cancer.
It was big but it wasn’t normal, it was so abnormal. I then felt his abdomen and sadly I could feel a mass. He just waited too long.
He had delayed his diagnosis by 6 months and it may have cost him his life
You can’t imagine his shock when I sat him down and explained that his left testicle was absolutely normal and the right was full of the big C (CANCER). His examination also revealed that he had a rock hard mass in the centre of his abdomen. It looked like the cancer had spread.
A CT-scan confirmed that he had testicular cancer that had spread.
